In British English, the loo is the toilet — the room, or the bowl itself. People say go to the loo, where’s the loo?, flush the loo. It is everyday and a bit , not a rude word; you can say it to a host, a child, or a colleague. Americans usually say bathroom or restroom instead, even when there is no bath. You also hear loo roll for toilet paper. Older, fussier British words include WC and ; loo sits in the middle: informal, but polite enough. It is almost always the loo, with the. Nobody in Taiwan will look for a sign that says loo; they will look for 廁所 or a toilet icon.
