Longitude is how far east or west a place is on the Earth. We measure it in degrees from an imaginary north–south line through Greenwich in London (the prime meridian). The longitude lines themselves run from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Longitude longitude is指的是 how far east or west a place is on the Earth一個地方在地球上偏東或偏西多遠 We我們 measure it in degrees是用度數來量 from an imaginary north–south line從一條假想的南北向線 through Greenwich in London經過倫敦格林威治 the prime meridian本初子午線 The longitude lines themselves經線本身 run from the North Pole to the South Pole則是從北極連到南極
Latitude is the other number — north or south of the . You need both to pin a point on a map.
Latitude latitude is是 the other number另外一個數字 north or south of the equator在赤道以北或以南多遠 You你 need both兩個都需要 to pin a point on a map要在地圖上標出一個點
Sailors, map-makers, and phones with GPS use this; in daily talk you rarely need the word.

It came into English from Old French, from Latin longitūdō, “length,” from longus, “long.” A classroom hook is that longitude lines look like the long ones, pole to pole — useful, but that is a memory trick, not the whole history. Pair it with latitude; do not swap them.
It它 came into English from Old French是從古法文進入英文的 from Latin longitūdō, "length"再往前追是拉丁文longitūdō,意思是「長度」 from longus, "long"來自longus「長」 A classroom hook課堂上常用的記憶法 is that longitude lines look like the long ones, pole to pole是,經線看起來就是那種從極點到極點的「長」線 useful這個方法有用 but但 that is a memory trick, not the whole history只是幫助記憶,不是完整的字源故事 Pair it with latitude把它跟latitude配成一組 do not swap them不要把兩個搞混
組成From Latin longitūdō, “length,” from longus, “long,” through Old French. In geography it came to mean distance east or west.
