A locksmith is a person whose job is locks: making them, fitting them, fixing them, and opening them when a key is lost. If you are shut out of your house or your bike lock will not turn, this is who you call. The smith part is the old word for a skilled maker of metal things — the same idea as in — so a locksmith is, in origin, a lock-maker. Today the work is as much about keys, electronic locks, and safes as about iron. It is a trade, not a surname you must capitalise, and it is not the same as a general builder.
