Loamy is the describing word for that good mixed soil: not pure sand, not pure clay, with enough old plant matter to feel soft and a bit springy. If someone says “loamy soil”, they mean the ground holds water without turning to sticky mud, and lets roots breathe. Gardeners use it all the time — “tomatoes like a loamy bed” — and it is a little more everyday than the noun loam in some places, because people naturally say “the soil is loamy” rather than “this is loam”. Though actually, it is still a gardener’s and farmer’s word; you will not hear it much in city small-talk. It does not mean “full of loans” or anything to do with money. It only talks about the feel and mix of the earth.
