Limply means in a limp way — not firm, not strong, hanging or moving with no tightness. A tired arm hangs limply. A flag hangs limply when there is no wind. A person may smile limply, which means the smile has no energy, as if they do not really mean it. It is an ordinary adverb from everyday limp. Though actually, students who have just learned limpid sometimes write limply when they wanted “clearly.” That is a different family.
