A limo is a limousine: a long, extra-smart car, often with a driver. People hire one for a wedding, a school dance, or a night when they want to feel famous. Limo is the short, casual word; limousine is the full word, borrowed from French. A stretch limo is the very long kind with many seats inside. The short form has been around since about 1929. It is informal speech and writing; a formal booking form will still say limousine.
