Limestone is a common rock that holds a lot of calcium. It is often pale grey, cream or nearly white, and it can show tiny shells if it formed in an old sea. Builders have used it for walls, steps and churches for centuries. Heat it hard and you can make lime, the powder used in mortar and cement. slowly eats limestone, and that is how some caves and strange hill country form. It is not the green fruit, and it is not the crust in your kettle — that crust is — but they share the same “lime”: calcium.
