Lilliput is an imaginary country in Jonathan Swift's book Gulliver's Travels. There, all the people, animals, and buildings are tiny next to Gulliver, who is a normal-sized man. People sometimes say a place is like Lilliput when everything looks small — a joke or a nod. Though actually Swift was not only being cute: the little people are proud and quarrelsome, like real nations in miniature. Lilliput is the place-name; the everyday adjective for extremely small is .
