A likable person is nice to be around: other people find them easy to like. It is a warm, everyday word, not a huge compliment like wonderful and not as deep as kind. It just says this person (or sometimes a film, a town, a manner) goes down easily — you want them near you. Though actually the feeling is often light: someone can be likable without being good, and someone quiet and good may not strike people as likable at first. American spelling often drops the e (likable); British spelling usually keeps it (likeable). Same word, same meaning.
