Lift-off is the moment a rocket or spacecraft leaves the ground and starts to rise. Mission control counts down to it; news clips freeze on that second, when the vehicle is no longer sitting on Earth. As a noun it often keeps the : lift-off. Planes more often take off; rockets lift off — though people mix the two, and you will hear both. We also stretch it: a plan, a product, or a career can ‘reach lift-off’ when it finally starts moving. That is space talk borrowed for ordinary life, a little dramatic on purpose.
「lift-off」指火箭或太空船離開地面、開始上升的那一刻。任務控制中心會倒數到這一刻，新聞畫面常停在那一秒，那時候載具已經不再待在地球上。當名詞時常保留連字號，寫成 lift-off。
飛機通常說「take off」，火箭通常說「lift off」，不過大家也常混用。這個字也會被借來比喻：計畫、產品或事業可以「reach lift-off」，表示終於開始真正動起來。這是把太空用語借來形容日常，有點刻意的戲劇感。
