A liaison is a person, or the connection itself, that helps two groups or people communicate and work together — like a "liaison officer" whose whole job is passing information between two teams that don't normally talk directly. It's a slightly formal, often work-related word. It can also mean a secret romantic relationship, though that older meaning is less common now.
