Levis are a famous kind of jeans. The name comes from Levi Strauss, who sold strong work trousers in the United States; the brand later became a fashion item. When people say they are wearing Levis, they usually mean those blue jeans with the little tab and the stitched back pockets, not just any trousers. Younger people may still treat a new pair as a bit stylish; older people may remember them as work clothes that became cool. Though actually a lot of “Levis” you see now are only jeans in that style, and some are copies. In shops the label is often written Levi’s, with an apostrophe, as if to say “jeans from Levi’s”.
