1. 1

Leipzig is a city in the east of Germany, toward the middle of the country, not on the sea. It has a famous old university, and for a long time it has been a place people come to buy, sell, and show goods — it is still an important centre for business. It is not the German capital (that is Berlin), and many meet Munich first, but Germans know Leipzig well, not least for learning and for music. In English we keep the German spelling.
