LDS is the short written form of Latter-Day Saints. Those are the members of a Christian church whose full name is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You will see LDS on church buildings, on forms, and in the news when the long name is too much. People still often say Mormon in ordinary talk; though actually the church has asked to be called Latter-day Saints, and LDS is the short form that matches that wish. Saints here means the people in the church, not only very holy figures in stories. You read it as three letters, L-D-S. It is a name, so you do not add -ed or -ing.
