1. 1

Laters is a throwaway goodbye. It is see you later with a playful extra -s on the end, the same cuddly kind of ending you hear in toodles and bye-byes. One person sliding out of a group chat, or leaving a café, might toss it over their shoulder: laters. It is young, casual, a bit internet, and more at home in British-leaning talk than in a formal US office, though you will meet it online everywhere. You would not put it in a school essay, and you would not say it to a principal. It is not the plural of later as a time (you do not have two laters on the clock). It is just a wave dressed as a word. Some people spell a laterz; same goodbye.
