Late-night names things that happen when the evening is already over — the hours when a lot of people are in bed, or at least should be. A late-night snack is food you eat then. Late-night television is the show that starts when the prime-time programmes have finished. A late-night bus is the one that still runs after the usual last trains. It almost always sits in front of a noun, like a label for that time-slot. People stretch how late counts as late-night: eleven at night can already be late-night TV; two in the morning with is definitely a late-night meal. It is ordinary English, not fancy and not rude. Do not mix it with last night, which only means the night that has just gone. You can be up late last night without calling it a late-night anything; late-night is the kind of night, not a report of when you slept.
late-night 指晚上已經過了很晚的時候發生的事，像是夜已深、很多人都該睡了的時段。它幾乎都放在名詞前面，寫成「late-night ＿＿」，例如 late-night snack（深夜點心）、late-night television（深夜節目）、late-night bus（深夜公車），都是在標示那個時段。
幾點才算深夜，人們的看法不一。晚上十一點有時就是深夜節目的時段；凌晨兩點吃碗麵，一定算是深夜的餐點。這是很平常的英文，不正式，也不粗魯。
它和 last night 不同。last night 指剛過去的那個晚上，只是時間點；late-night 描述的是那一類的夜晚，不是在說你什麼時候睡的。
