Lascivious describes a look, a comment, a picture, or a person that is full of sexual desire, or that is trying to wake that feeling in someone else. It is a strong, rather old-fashioned and formal word. You will find it in books, news stories about “lascivious conduct,” and film reviews, not in the playground. It almost always sounds — as if the desire is too much, too open, or not wanted. A lascivious grin is not a friendly smile; a lascivious remark is the kind that makes someone uncomfortable. Though actually, older writing could use related Latin senses closer to “playful,” but in English today the sexual meaning has taken over. Do not use it for ordinary romance or a light joke; English already has milder words for those.
