A lappy is a laptop — the computer you rest on your knees. It is a homey, informal nickname: laptop cut short and given a -y ending, the way some speakers say telly for television. You will hear it in casual British and Australian talk more than in careful American English, and more at a café table than in a shop or an exam essay. Though actually, even people who say lappy will write laptop on a form. It is friendly, not fancy, and a little childish in a warm way — not an insult, just unbuttoned.
