Lanolin is a thick, stuff taken from sheep’s wool. When wool is washed, this oil comes off the hairs. Factories put it into skin creams, lip balms, and the heavy creams new mothers use on sore skin, because it sits on the skin and helps keep water in. It feels rich and a bit , not like cooking oil. The name began as a company trademark in the late 1800s, then became the ordinary name for the stuff itself. You will see it in the ingredient list on a tube. Some people who react to wool also react to lanolin, though actually that is not true for everyone.
