  1. 1跑路、在逃（on the lam）

    If someone is on the lam, they are running and hiding, usually from the police. It is American informal speech, a little old-fashioned now — the language of crime films, pulp stories, and newspapers: he skipped town and went on the lam. People also say take it on the lam, meaning to start running. You can meet lam as a verb for ‘run off’, but the set phrase on the lam is the one students actually see. Though actually, you almost never use lam alone as a neat noun in careful talk; it wants that on the. The colour is noir, even a bit today. A lawyer in court would say ‘a fugitive’ instead.
