The adverb of laconic — describing HOW someone says or does something: in very few words, usually with a calm, dry, unbothered air. It almost always sits next to a speaking verb: he replied laconically, she remarked laconically, 'No,' he said laconically. Writers use it to tell you the tone of a line of dialogue that looks plain on the page — the shortness is the character, not just the sentence. Occasionally it stretches to writing rather than speech: a report written laconically. It is a word; in speech people would just say 'he answered in one word' or 'he didn't say much'.

組成laconic + -ally, the usual way English turns an adjective ending in -ic into an adverb (basic → basically, tragic → tragically). The root is Laconia, home of the famously few-worded Spartans.
