Kudos is the good name you get when people look up to you for something important you did — praise, respect, a quiet well done that stays with you. You can get kudos, give kudos, or say “kudos to her” when you want to point at who deserves the praise. It sounds a little smart or formal, but people also use it lightly, even in work emails. It was borrowed from an old Greek word for glory and praise. Though actually, it looks like a plural because it ends in s, and many English speakers treat it that way (“kudos go to…”). Older careful style treats it as one lump of praise, not as many little pieces. A lot of people now invent “a kudo” as if the s came off; you will hear it, but many teachers still mark it as odd.
