1. 1

Krakatoa is a volcano in the sea between Java and , in the Sunda Strait near Indonesia. English also uses the form Krakatau. It is still active. In 1883 it blew apart in one of the loudest eruptions we have on record: the blast and the sea that followed killed about 36,000 people, and ash in the sky made sunsets look strange far across the world. Though actually, the mountain you would see there now is not simply the old one. Much of it fell in, and a newer cone — often called Anak Krakatau, Child of Krakatoa — has grown in its place and has again in our time.

組成Krakatoa is the older English spelling of the Indonesian name Krakatau. What that local name first meant, I will not guess.
