KLM is the big airline of the Netherlands. The letters stand for a long Dutch name, Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij, “Royal Aviation Company.” English speakers almost always say the three letters, not the full name. You see KLM on planes, tickets, and airport boards, and people treat it like a name: I flew KLM, a KLM flight. In English ads it often appears as KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. It is one of the oldest airlines still flying. Though actually, it now belongs to a larger group with Air France, but the planes and tickets still say KLM. Travellers in Taiwan often say 荷航 in Chinese more readily than they say KLM out loud — but in English the letters are the normal word.
