In Star Trek, a Klingon is one of a proud warrior people from another world, famous for honour, battle, and foreheads. People also say Klingon for their made-up language, which some fans really learn. You write it with a capital K, like a nationality: a Klingon, the Klingon Empire. Though actually, almost every student who meets this word is meeting the television aliens, not a real country on a map. The name is from the 1960s series, said to be coined by Gene Roddenberry after Lieutenant Wilbur Clingan of the Los Angeles Police Department. In the show's own story, Klingon is said to write the native word tlhIngan. There is also a rare real family name Klingon, with a different, older story; that is not the classroom sense.
