A Kit-Kat is a chocolate bar made of long, thin wafer fingers joined together and covered in chocolate — two fingers or four, depending on the bar. It is a Nestlé brand (Rowntree’s before that, in Britain). The old British advertisement said “Have a break, have a Kit-Kat”, and that line is still famous: the bar is sold as a small pause, not as a huge treat. On wrappers you will often see KitKat, with no hyphen; learners’ books still like Kit-Kat. Though actually it is sold all over the world, and in some places — Japan especially — you will meet many flavours that the old British bar never had. In Taiwan people usually just say the English name.
