Kildare is a county in the east of the Republic of Ireland, on the inland side of Dublin. People say County Kildare. The land is quite open for Ireland, with good grass, and it is famous for horses: racing, breeding, the wide plain called the Curragh. There is also a town called Kildare, which gave the county its name. An old church there stood among oak trees, and that is in the Irish name. Though actually, English speakers who only know Dublin sometimes treat Kildare as “just outside the city,” but it is its own county, with its own towns, and people who live there will tell you so. In sport and in addresses you will often see Kildare on its own, meaning the county.
