1. 1

A kickstand is a thin metal bar on the bottom of a bicycle or a motorcycle. When the vehicle is not moving, you push the bar down with your foot — you kick it into place — and it holds the bike upright so it can stand without falling. Before you ride, you kick it back up, or it will along the ground. Some also have a bigger stand that holds the whole bike more firmly, but kickstand usually means that one-sided little bar. It is an everyday riders' word, nothing fancy.
