    Kick-ass means very strong, very good at what it does, and sometimes a bit fierce or violent with it. You can call a film kick-ass, or a person, or a performance. It is informal American English, and it is rude-ish because of ass (bottom). Younger people use it as praise. You would not say it to a teacher, a you do not know well, or in a job interview. Though actually, the “violent” part is only sometimes there; often it just means good.
