    KFOR is the short name for the Kosovo Force: soldiers from many countries, led by NATO, sent to Kosovo to protect the people who live there and to stop different ethnic groups from fighting and killing each other. The force went in after a war in the late 1990s. You will meet this word in the news and in history; it is an official name, so it feels serious. Ordinary chat does not use it unless the news is on. Kosovo is a small place in south-east Europe; it used to be part of Yugoslavia. The painful story there is mainly between Kosovo Albanians and , though that is much bigger than this one word. KFOR is only the name of the force that was sent to keep the peace, and people still use that name for the mission.
