The letters stand for Kentucky Fried Chicken. Kentucky is a US state, and that was the company’s old name; the company now goes by just the three letters. People of all ages say KFC. It is a brand name, so it feels informal and everyday, like the name of a shop, not like a school word. Though actually, younger people often never say the three full words at all. The chicken is still what the name makes you think of first, even though the menu is wider than that.
