Kent is a county in the southeast of England, between London and the sea that faces France. People call it the Garden of England because it has long grown fruit, vegetables, and hops for beer — cherries and apples are part of that picture. Dover, with its white cliffs and ferries, is in Kent; so is Canterbury. In British English the name is ordinary geography, also used with a little pride in food and countryside talk. Though actually, a lot of Kent today is towns and people who travel into London for work, not only orchards. The 'garden' line is still true of the farms, but it is tidier than the whole county. This entry is the English county, not the first name Kent and not towns called Kent in other countries.
組成Inherited from Middle English Kent, from Old English Cent, from Latin Cantium, from a Brythonic name *Cantio (compare Old Irish céite, a gathering place or hillock), from Proto-Celtic *kantos ('corner, rim'). The county sits on a corner of England, which fits that old meaning, but the path comes through those older names, not from modern English corner.
