In travel English, Kennedy is New York's main international airport — officially John F. Kennedy International Airport, in Queens, on the edge of the city. Locals and airline screens usually say JFK; people also say Kennedy. If someone flying in from another country says 'we land at Kennedy', they mean this airport, not a person. New York has other airports, and this is the messy bit students need: LaGuardia is closer in and handles many shorter flights; Newark is also international, but it sits in New Jersey. Kennedy is the big overseas doorway. The airport used to be called Idlewild; it was after President John F. Kennedy. So the place-name is a family name used as a map word. In this sense it is everyday travel talk, not formal, and you will hear it on tickets, in taxis, and in 'which airport?' questions.
組成The airport is named after President John F. Kennedy. The family name is from Irish Ó Cinnéidigh, from ceann ('head') plus éidigh ('ugly'), or from Scottish Gaelic Ceannaideach, built the same way. The airport word itself does not split; it is a surname turned into a place.
