A kegger is a big, informal party — often outdoors, often at an American college — where the beer comes from kegs, not from a bar. The word is American slang, a bit messy and young: it suggests a crowd, plastic cups, and beer that is cheap and plentiful. It is not a dinner party and not a nightclub. Older people may still know the word from campus life; you would not use it in a polite invitation or a school essay. Though actually, not every party with beer is a kegger: the keg is the point. If the beer is in bottles in the kitchen, people usually just say party.
