Kabul is the capital city of Afghanistan, and its biggest city — the place where government, trade, and a lot of the country’s public life have long been centred. English took the name from Persian kābul; scholars have not settled where that Persian name itself began, so an honest teacher stops there. You will hear Kabul in the news because Afghanistan has lived through many wars, but the word is simply the city’s name, the way is a city’s name. Dari (a form of Persian) and Pashto are both used there. It is a place-name, like , not a word that changes shape.
