A juniper is a small evergreen bush — sometimes a little tree — with tight, needle-like leaves. It grows small round berries that turn blue-purple. Cooks use the berries with meat; they taste sharp and a bit like pine. Gin is with them, which is why gin smells like a forest. You also see juniper on dry hills and mountains. Though actually the “berries” are tiny cones, but everyone still calls them berries. It is an ordinary nature-and-cooking word, not slang.

組成From Late Middle English junyper / juniperus, from Latin iūniperus, “juniper-tree.” The English word does not usefully split into smaller living pieces.
