Jumbo means much bigger than the usual size of that thing: a jumbo pack, jumbo size, jumbo shrimp. It is informal and a bit loud, the kind of word shops like on a label. It is not a careful science word. The name comes from Jumbo, a very large African elephant that a circus made famous in the 1800s, so the word still carries an oversized, show-business feeling. As a noun, a jumbo can mean a jumbo jet, the huge passenger plane. Though actually, jumbo shrimp makes some people smile, because jumbo says huge and shrimp says small — but in a shop it only means the bigger kind of shrimp.
