A jukebox is a machine in a bar, , or restaurant that plays a song when you put in money and choose a number. The old ones held real records behind glass; later ones used CDs, and some now are just a screen with a computer inside. People also stretch the word: a jukebox musical is a show built from famous pop songs already out in the world, not new ones written for the story. The word feels a bit old and American, from around 1939. Though actually it is not karaoke: with a jukebox you sit and listen; with karaoke you stand up and sing.

組成juke + box. Juke was a roadside café, a place with food, drink, and music. Box is the cabinet. Together they replaced older, longer names like coin-operated phonograph. First heard around 1939.
