In English you almost always meet Jove in the set phrase by Jove. Older British speakers used it to show surprise or to press a point, a polite, slightly theatrical cousin of wow or indeed: By Jove, she's right. It does not swear. Young people today do not say it unless they are copying a book or a film set long ago; it will make you sound like someone's grandfather on purpose. Though actually Jove is an old English name for the Roman sky-god Jupiter. English kept the name mainly in this mild cry, not as a god people still talk to. Nobody in ordinary life says Jove the way they say God.
天哪、真的(舊式英國話 by Jove;現在幾乎只當這句驚嘆,不當神名喊)
組成From Middle English Joves, from Latin Iovis, the of-form of Iuppiter (Jupiter). The old root meant sky / to be bright. Same deep family as Jupiter and Zeus.
