Joinery is the trade of a joiner, and also the work that comes out of it: the doors, frames, , and other wooden fittings made by joining wood with skill. If a house has beautiful joinery, people mean those wooden parts are well made. The word is more at home in British English; American speakers often say millwork, woodwork, or cabinetry instead. It is a workshop and building-site word, a little technical but not fancy. It is built from joiner plus -y (the same family of endings as -ery in bakery): the craft, or the things produced. You do not use joinery for rough outdoor timber work; that is carpentry. And you do not use it for metal or plastic — it is about wood, joined.
