Jocularity is the noun from : joking talk, or the quality of being playful with words. “A mood of jocularity” means people are teasing and laughing, not being grave. It names the atmosphere, not just one joke. It is a formal, word. Students almost never need it in speech — joking or humour will do — but writers use it when they want to point at the tone of a whole room or a whole passage. Though actually, jocularity can also be a thin cover: someone may hide discomfort behind a string of little jokes, and the word still fits.
