In the Hebrew Bible, Jezebel is a queen, remembered as fierce, loyal to her own gods, and painted by the writers as a dangerous enemy. English later lifted her name and made it a harsh word for a woman someone wants to call sexually , , or painted-up and bold. That is a stretch: the Bible story is more about power and worship than about sex, but the insult stuck, and it is almost always . It is old-fashioned now, the sort of word a preacher or a gossip in an old film might spit. Capital J as the name; sometimes a small j when it is used as a common noun. Students should recognise it on the page. They should not use it of a real person.
組成Borrowed from Hebrew אִיזֶבֶל ('izével), the name of the queen. English then reused the name as a label.
