Jerkiness is the name for that rough, start-and-stop quality. If a film has jerkiness, the picture jumps instead of flowing. If a walk has jerkiness, the person does not move in one smooth line. We use the word for movement, pictures, and machines more than for a person’s character. In everyday talk people often just say something was jerky; jerkiness is the slightly more noun for the same idea. Though actually, like jerkily, it does not mean . A rude “jerk” is a different use, and dried “jerky” meat is a different word again.
