Jeeves is a man in funny English stories by P. G. Wodehouse. He is the valet — a male servant who looks after clothes, meals, and daily life — of a rich young man called Bertie Wooster. Bertie is kind but often silly; Jeeves is calm, clever, and very patient. Again and again Bertie gets into a social mess, and Jeeves quietly finds a way out. The joke is that the servant is wiser than the gentleman. Because so many people know the stories, English speakers sometimes say “a Jeeves” for a who can fix anything without fuss. That is a nickname from the character, not a job title in real life. It is always a name, so it takes a capital J.
組成It began as a surname. That surname comes from a Middle English pet form of the woman’s name Genevieve. Wodehouse then used it for the valet.
