Jaws is the name of a famous American film from 1975, made by Steven Spielberg. It is about a huge shark that kills people who swim near a summer beach town, and then about a small group of men who go out in a boat to hunt it. People still say the title when they mean a story that makes you scared of the sea — though actually it is also a tense film about three very different men stuck together on that boat. It is not a general word for a shark, and it is not the everyday word for the bones in your mouth. Those are jaws with a small j. This one is a title, with a capital J. A lot of people know the poster (a shark coming up under a ) even if they have never watched the film.
