A jawbreaker is a round, very hard sweet. You cannot really chew it — you suck it, sometimes for a long time, while it slowly gets smaller and often shows a new colour underneath. The joke in the name is that it could break your jaw if you bit down. It is informal candy-shop talk, more American than British. Though actually, people also call a very hard word a jawbreaker — a long name you trip over. This entry is the sweet.
