A jack-of-all- is someone who can do many different kinds of work. The sting, which English often leaves hanging in the air, is that they are not very skilled at any one of them. The old full line is “jack of all , master of none.” Jack here is the ordinary man; are kinds of work or craft, not the stock market. In real talk the feeling moves around. Sometimes it is fond: this is the neighbour who can fix a bike, paint a room, and cook, and you are glad they exist. Sometimes it is a polite way to say “spread thin” or “not an expert.” Younger, kinder speakers may push back and treat it as praise for being useful in many places. You still need your ear: in a job interview it can sound like “no deep skill,” even if the speaker smiles. Informal. There is no single formal job title that matches it.
