In the old Greek stories, Ithaca is the home island of , the man who takes years to sail back after the war at Troy. It is a small, rocky island in the Ionian Sea, off the west side of Greece — though actually some tidy school lines say “east,” and that does not match the map. The point of the story is not size. Ithaca is the place he belongs to, the house and the people he is trying to reach. Later writers sometimes use Ithaca as a picture of “the home you long for,” but that is a borrowed, stretch. There is also a city called Ithaca in New York; that place was named after the island, and it is not the one in the Greek poems.
組成Borrowed from Latin Ithaca, from Ancient Greek Ithake (a Doric form is Ithaka). That is the name as it came into English; I would not press a further story.
