Isaac is a man in the Old Testament of the Bible. He is the son of Abraham and Sarah, and the father of two boys, Jacob and . Jewish, Christian, and Muslim teaching all remember him (in Arabic his name is Ishaq). In the story, God had promised Abraham a son when Abraham and Sarah were already very old. Sarah laughed, because it seemed impossible — and then the boy was born. The Bible itself ties his name to that laugh. The hard scene students meet is this: God asks Abraham to offer Isaac as a test of trust. Abraham is willing; then God stops him, and a ram — a male sheep — is offered instead. Isaac is also a common boy’s name in English. Though actually, who meet the name on a school bag may never meet the Bible story, and people who only know the story may not realise it is still an ordinary first name.
組成From Middle English Ysaac, from Latin Isaac, from Ancient Greek Ἰσαάκ (Isaák), from Hebrew יצחק (Yiṣḥāq), “he laughs” or “he will laugh.” Genesis ties it to Sarah laughing when she was told she would have a son in old age. The Hebrew verb is masculine, perhaps because the name was used for a boy.
