When something is done irrevocably, it is done in a way that nobody can take it back or stop it. The door has closed. People use it for big, serious things: a decision, a signature, a change that cannot be undone. It sounds formal. In everyday talk, someone might just say you cannot take it back, or it is already done. Though actually, people also stretch it a little: I am irrevocably in love does not mean a law has locked the feeling in; it means the speaker wants you to feel there is no way back. It is not a louder word for very, and it is not the same as forever. Forever is about time. Irrevocably is about having no reverse gear.
組成irrevocable + -ly (the -ly ending makes an adverb). irrevocable itself is ir- (not) + revocable (able to be called back or taken back).
